There are many varied trout fisheries available to the travelling angler in Southland NZ.

The area is known for backcountry rivers that hold some of the largest Brown Trout to be found on the South island.

Backcountry fishing is, in the main, a stalking style of fishing to sighted fish. The Fish and conditions can be testing at times but Steve will guide you through the processes needed to connect you with that trophy fish.

Southland is equally well known for the hatch based fishing found in many of its lowland rivers and streams.
If fishing to rising and sighted fish excites you then this area has an abundance of this style of fishing.

Mayfly hatches and Spinner falls are common place. At the right time of year, under the right conditions, this sort of fishing can occur from the morning to the late evening.

Summer time sees great fishing to Terrestrial falls, from large Cicadas to the diminutive Willow Grub.

Steve is well versed in this style of river and fishing, it is also where some of his unique fly patterns come into play.

The rivers that feed into and out of the many lakes in the region offer exceptional mixed fisheries. One cast may be to a trophy sized Brown and the next to a wild Rainbow that can pull line like a bonefish. A successful summers day on these systems will be remembered for a long time.

It is these varied fishing opportunities that first attracted Steve to the region and convinced him to stay and set up a guide operation here.
